The teaching of Special Religious Education (SRE) in government schools by approved religious providers has been part of our system of education in NSW since 1880. All NSW Government schools are required to make time available for SRE, known in many schools as scripture. This is a minimum time of 30 minutes of meaningful teaching time per week (in primary schools).
SRE gives students the opportunity to gain an understanding of the basic tenets of religious belief, question their beliefs and values, engage with ethical issues from a faith perspective, and explore how people apply faith to life. More information about Christian SRE can be found at this website.
Lindfield East PS offers SRE in various religions as well as the option of Ethics classes which are provided as an alternative for students who are not taking scripture classes.
