Learning experiences

LEPS students are provided with authentic learning challenges that foster curiosity, confidence, persistence, innovation, creativity, respect and cooperation. They are utilise a wide variety of technologies to address current trends in multimedia, images, video, animation, digital research and electronic communication, and are assisted to be regional and global citizens, capable of actively and ethically communicating and collaborating.

ICT capability is achieved when a student:

·         Has knowledge and an understanding of the concepts involved,

·         Has acquired the necessary skills,

·         Can apply these to new learning situations as appropriate, and

·         Understands the significance of ICT in the contemporary world, in their learning and life.

The extent to which they can do this independently and appropriately, making their own decisions, defines their level of capability.

Mrs Tuckerman, our inspirational Science and Sustainability teacher has introduced a highly engaging Robotics pro-gram to LEPS in 2011. A selected group of Year 6 students have been meeting during lunchtimes this year and interacting with 'Lego Mindstorms‘, an entry level robotics product. The lessons involve the construction of audio and touch sensored robots that are Ethernet cabled and programmable. The accompanying software allows the students to decide on the velocity, direction and speech the robot exhibits. Jack S of 6MH commented, 'Its been a great opportunity
and lots of fun. It‘s really improved my technology skills‘.
