In NSW the principal of East Lindfield Public School, Diane Read, said out of 640 enrolments 25 students who were children of essential workers physically attended the school on Wednesday.
She said those who attended school seemed relaxed and happy to be there.
The school had distributed 80 laptops to families needing additional learning hardware. Ms Read praised teachers who had been working since term one to develop online programs.
Students were given weekly timetables and studied three subjects a day, which included literacy, numeracy and one other subject.
