Today's children are growing up in a time of rapid technological change. ICTs (Information and Communications Technologies) are embedded across society and evolving rapidly. Digital systems such as mobile and desktop devices and networks are transforming learning, recreational activities, home life and work.
In order to meet the responsibility of ensuring that children develop the necessary technological knowledge, skills and understandings of society, the teaching of ICT at LEPS is integrated across all areas of the curriculum.
All students from Kindergarten to Year 4 attend ICT lessons facilitated by the school's Specialist Computer Teacher, Mrs Cheryl Hill. These lessons (which are held in the school's computer lab equipped with 35 PCs and an Interactive White Board), are explicitly designed to address the outcomes described in the Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies and have a strong focus on ICT capability and digital citizenship. Students in years 5 & 6 utilise a bank of laptop computers in the classroom with their class teachers.
The Australian Curriculum: Digital Technologies empowers students with a deep knowledge and understanding of ICTs, enabling them to be creative and discerning decision-makers when they select, use and manage these systems. It assists students to become effective users and critical consumers of digital information.
Students are provided with authentic learning challenges that foster curiosity, confidence, persistence, innovation, creativity, respect and cooperation. They are utilise a wide variety of technologies to address current trends in multimedia, images, video, animation, digital research and electronic communication. They are assisted to be regional and global citizens, capable of actively and ethically communicating and collaborating.
Mobile technologies are integrated in classrooms with banks of iPads available for class teachers use during all curriculum areas. The school is equipped with Interactive Whiteboards (IWB) in all classrooms and our Connected Classroom, housing video conferencing equipment is regularly used to conference with other schools and organisations. This room also acts as a second computer lab enabling greater access to technology for all students.
