On Monday evening 23rd June 2014, the String ensemble performed in the Concert Hall at the Sydney Opera House. The 2014 Festival of Instrumental Music, the Acacia Concert, is an annual event organised by the NSW DEC Arts unit. Seventeen students from LEPS proudly performed as part of the Combined Public Schools String Ensemble. They performed ‘Secret Agent 440' and ‘Prince Ivan and the Grey Wolf' together with the Combined Public Schools Recorder Ensemble. It was a magnificent performance and an amazing opportunity for the children.
As noted in a recent study undertaken by the University of Sydney and the Australia Council for the Arts, "students who engaged with the arts in schools as active participants – as makers and doers of the arts – were more likely to do better in academic and social spheres than those who passively consumed the arts."
