The study of mathematics is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10.
By studying mathematics, students learn to work mathematically – developing fluency, understanding, problem-solving, reasoning and communication skills.
The syllabus consists of the following strands:
Maths Mastermind Day
To celebrate National Literacy and Numeracy Week, LEPS hold an annual Maths Mastermind Day. Students rotate through activities planned by the teachers on their grade, aimed at providing opportunities to engage in creative problem solving tasks and have fun with maths. The students visit different classrooms and work together to solve mathematical problems.
Maths in the Community
Each year, as part of the successful Maths in the Community program, parents and members of the local community speak with our senior students about the importance of mathematics. These volunteers share how mathematics is used in their occupations and engage our students with their knowledge and expertise. From these sessions, students can see how integral mathematics is to our everyday lives.
Mathletics
Each child at LEPS is offered a Mathletics user account. This popular interactive learning systems features full curriculum content for Years K - 6 with interactive learning modules, fun games and the extremely popular live competition where students compete against each other in real time. Students can access Mathletics from home using their username and password.
